The current volume lists 1,526 American works, 160 Canadian works, and 1,191 foreign works written and/or premiered during the last decade. These publications have been prepared to serve as a guide and inspiration to producers they also represent a unique record of the abundance of music theater pieces completed, and in most cases performed, during the periods covered. This volume with over 3,200 entries, together with its five precursors, which it complements and updates, encompass sixty years of new American s and forty years of new foreign works. Recent developments have outdistanced any previous statistics (see page 323 for the latest COS Survey results), and we are pleased to offer herein further documentation of the exciting creativity of American and foreign composers and librettists, as well as of a large and ever growing audience ready and curious to listen and look, to accept or reject. Each of the five earlier compilations of new works remarked on the continuous growth, increased interest in and popularity of the art form, particularly in the United States. 4 1985) See publications list on page 325 for prices.ħ PREFACE Ten years have passed since the last COS directory of contemporary s appeared. 2 1980) Directory of Operas/Musicals for Young Audiences (Vol. 2 1975) Directory of American and Foreign Contemporary Operas & American Premieres (Vol. 2 1968) Directory of American and Foreign Contemporary Operas &.

Contributors offer multi-disciplinary perspectives that delineate how Parra contributed to shaping and-at the same time-antagonizing, societal processes in mid-20th century Chile. This book revisits Parra’s work and legacy to illustrate her global impact across artistic and political boundaries. Fifty years after her death, she continues to deeply influence artists of the present day. Stern, Alberto Flores Galindo and Hilldale Professor of History, Emeritus, University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA One of the leading figures in Latin American folk music and art during her lifetime, Violeta Parra was a vital force in the artistic, musical, visual, cultural, and social cultural production of the Chilean 1960s. “The editor and her collaborators have given us a gift-the ability to ‘listen’ differently to the music and art that embodied a nation, a social era, and a singular artist.” Nancy Morris, Professor, Department of Media Studies and Production, Temple University, USA “Readers discovering Violeta Parra for the first time and those who wish to deepen their understanding of her will appreciate this illuminating book.”
